Picture this. Man #1 owns a cow. Man #2 owns a bull. Turns out, these majestic beasts really, really like each other. Man #1's cow jumps the property line dividing Man #1 and #2's abodes, and well, nature takes it's course. The cow jumps back over and gives birth to a calf. Great, free cow. Only one problem... MAN #1 DOESN'T OWN ANY BULLS. Man #2 wants that young calf and all it's delicious milk, so he steals some DNA off it, like a thief in the night, and tests it against his lone bull.. It's a match. Man #2 sues the crap out of Man #1, demanding the calf is his because his bull is the father and Man #1's cow is a whore. Furthermore, he's got evidence that the "act" took place on his property. Man #1 is like screw you and countersues, claiming slander and trespassing.

From your trained perspective, how does this all play out?

Actually, now that I'm not in a state of panic I think I can answer that without looking into the books, even though I rememebr bugger all from 4 years ago. I believe that the owner of teh cow would indeed get the calf, but he would also be responsible for 'stealing' his neighbour's bull (it's more like unauthorised use, but I don't think something like that existed back then) since it's his job to keep an eye on his animals.
